Safeguarding adults - for all staff in health and social care services

This course is currently only available for group bookings.

Whatever your role, everyone working in the adult health and social care sector has an absolute responsibility to safeguard the individuals in their care against potential harm or abuse. Managers, practitioners, operational and support staff must be competent and capable of recognising the signs of potential abuse and know when, how and where to report any concerns, including whistle-blowing.

There is a statutory obligation to undertake this learning at least once every three years.

This is an interactive course for staff who contribute to safeguarding adults, without having specific organisational responsibility or statutory authority to intervene. Typically this will include:

  • Support staff in health and social care settings (residential/respite/day centres)
  • Drivers and other transport staff
  • Clerical and administration staff
  • Domestic and ancillary staff
  • Volunteer befrienders and charity trustees

The workshop will focus on ensuring that learners will be equipped to challenge abusive behaviours and feel confident to whistle-blow safeguarding concerns. Specifically learners will:

  • Understand and demonstrate what safeguarding is
  • Recognise adults in need of safeguarding and take appropriate action
  • Understand dignity and respect when working with individuals
  • Understand procedures in making a safeguarding alert
  • Have knowledge of policies, procedures, legislation that supports safeguarding adults

Safeguarding adults - for managers of care services

This course is available on a bespoke basis for group bookings and is also scheduled to run regularly at locations across Wiltshire. Scheduled courses are open to everyone.

This is an interactive course for managers, deputy managers and supervisors in regulated care and support services who have line management responsibility and considerable professional and organisational responsibility for safeguarding. Typically learners will include:

  • Frontline managers
  • Health and social care provider managers
  • Safeguarding champions
  • Senior staff, supervisors and deputies

The workshop will focus on ensuring that attendees:

  • Understand their responsibilities as required by CQC essential standards of quality and safety, particularly outcome 7,safeguarding people who use services from abuse and outcome 14, supporting workers
  • Recognise an adult potentially in need of safeguarding and take action in line with best practice and local/national policy and procedures
  • Take a pro-active approach that reduces risk and promotes safer services while ensuring independence, choice and control
