Autism - An awareness of autistic spectrum conditions

This course is currently only available for group bookings. 

This course is ideal for those who know very little about autism, and especially parents/carers of children or young people who are on the autistic spectrum who want an understanding of the basics.

The course provides a basic introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions, covering key area of knowledge and exploring important themes such as individuality, communication, behaviour and person centered support. 

The course covers key areas of what the autistic spectrum is and explores how to use effective and tailored support to empower the individual. 

By the end of this course learners will:

  • Explore what is meant by the term ‘autistic spectrum condition’
  • Look at the behavioural characteristics associated with autistic spectrum condition 
  • Understand the sensory difficulties which may be experienced by individuals with an autistic spectrum condition 
  • Learn some basic strategies on how best to support individuals who are on the spectrum
  • Explore effective communication resources that will aid supporting a person who has Autism
  • Review the various organisations that can give help, advice and guidance to the individual with autism and their primary carers

There are no entry requirements for this course. We welcome anyone with an interest in gaining greater awareness of autistic spectrum conditions by way of a gentle introduction.

Autism level 2 - Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions

This course is currently only available for group bookings.

This course develops knowledge and understanding of autistic spectrum conditions and provides a detailed study of how to support people on the autistic spectrum by exploring important themes such as individuality, communication, behaviour and person centred support. The course is pitched at Level 2 for individuals and groups who want to gain further insight beyond the basics. It is suitable for those with a professional interest in autism and also parents /carers of children, young people and adults who are on the spectrum.

Participants will be expected to have some previous knowledge of the subject matter from having attended our 1 day Autism Awareness workshop or be able to evidence equivalent learning/experience. This course focuses on progressing knowledge and skills beyond the basics and a minimum level of understanding will be assumed.

Autism level 3 - Supporting individuals with autistic spectrum conditions 

This course is available on a bespoke basis for group training and is also scheduled to run regularly at locations across Wiltshire. Scheduled courses are open to everyone.

An opportunity to look in depth at how individuals who are on the autistic spectrum can be supported with a tailored, personalised and empowering structure to help them live life to the full. This course provides a range of knowledge and understanding about autistic spectrum conditions and explores various theories and concepts. We'll explore the impact of these conditions on the lives of individuals and those close to them and learn good practice in key areas such as communication and support. Delivery will include a range of media and activities and there'll be plenty of time to discuss person-specific support strategies.

The course is pitched at Level 3 and aimed at individuals who want to develop further knowledge and understanding of autistic spectrum conditions in a professional capacity and parents/carers with an appropriate level of pre-existing knowledge or experience in the subject.
