Youth the focus at next Marlborough Area Board

Marlborough Area Board are hosting an event this Tuesday (13 March) from 6pm-7pm, for groups that work with young people.

Taking place in Marlborough's new Community and Youth Centre this event will be a chance to see the range of activities that go on in the area, chat to the people who run these groups and find out more about volunteering opportunities with them. If anyone has thought about giving their time and working on projects for young people, this will be an excellent chance to see what is out there.

There are already more than a dozen local groups signed up to the event. They range from dance and drama to a local brass band and from sports clubs, environmental groups and hi-tech coding.  There will also be staff from Wiltshire's Community Foundation, Youth Action Wiltshire and officers from Marlborough Area Board on hand to chat about funding, practical support for community groups, training and safeguarding advice

Also that evening, these groups will be bidding for a chance to earn up to £500 towards projects and activities for young people. They will be working hard to convince the audience to vote for their projects by putting tokens in a box.  This is called participatory budgeting and will be the first time Marlborough Area Board asks attendees at a meeting to help decide on funding like this.  The event on 13 March will be a great way to support your favourite activities.

Straight after this event at 7pm, Marlborough Area Board's meeting takes over and will continue with further information and support for local organisations. Jane Butler from Wiltshire Community Foundation will speak about how she can help community groups across the county; support and training for groups will be covered by Cleo Evans from Youth Action Wiltshire and we will hear from previous grant recipients how their projects have gone.

For more information about this event and the area board meeting, including how your organisation can book display space, please contact Andrew Jack, Community Engagement Manager on 01225 713109 or andrew.jack@wiltshire.gov.uk.
