Still time to have your say on the revised planning application for hotel, gym and library in Salisbury's Maltings

I would encourage local people to give their views on the redesigned scheme which includes the removal of a storey to reduce the impact on the United Reformed Church

Cllr Pauline Church, Cabinet Member for South Wiltshire Recovery

Local people have until Thursday 5 September 2019 to comment on the resubmitted planning application for a hotel, library and gym on the site of the former British Heart Foundation store at 30-36 Fisherton Street, Salisbury.

The revised application still retains the original proposal for an 86-room hotel, gym, and library and has been completely redesigned to be more in keeping with the characteristics of Fisherton Street.

The main changes include: the removal of one floor; the building is now all under 40ft apart from two lift shafts; the use of a wider range of materials; a new two-storey civic-style atrium to the library entrance, orientated towards the Playhouse and City Hall; a public area to the Fisherton Street frontage, with the building drawn back to allow a greater view of the United Reformed Church; and the roof of the building is proposed to be finished as a sedum brown roof, which will provide habitat within the urban environment.

Cllr Pauline Church, Cabinet Member for South Wiltshire Recovery, said: "I would encourage local people to give their views on the redesigned scheme which includes the removal of a storey to reduce the impact on the United Reformed Church.

"The Strategic Planning Committee will now consider the new designs and whether this important first phase of the Maltings and Central Car Park regeneration can proceed."

To view or comment on the full application, please go online. The application number is 19/07427/FUL. Public consultation on the visual appearance of the development is open until 5 September 2019.
