Statement from Leader of Wiltshire Council, Cllr Philip Whitehead in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement

Wiltshire Council is proud to show solidarity for the Black Lives Matter movement and support our residents, colleagues and communities affected by the killing of George Floyd.

We know people are hurt and angry at this time and keen to show their support at peaceful protests organised across the area. However, in supporting these, we must also continue to maintain safe social distancing in line with very important public health guidance to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

The strength of Wiltshire's diverse communities has been evident throughout the COVID-19 response. We will continue to build on the community spirit shown across the area as we move forwards and do everything we can to tackle any inequalities that might exist and support all members of our communities.

Cllr Philip Whitehead

Leader of Wiltshire Council
