Santas scamper through Calne for annual charity run
In cold, crisp Christmas conditions on Saturday at Calne Leisure Centre, 300 Santas gathered for the annual Santa's Scamper, a run to raise money for local charities.
The event raised £1,000; £500 each for Hannah's Trees and Wiltshire Air Ambulance, this year's supported charities.
Calne's town crier and junior town crier started the Santas off, while the town's mayor, Cllr Tony Trotman attended the event, and Father Christmas himself watched the start from the Calne Lions sleigh.
Laura Mayes, cabinet member for children, education and skills, ran the 4.5km event, which saw the runners start and finish at the leisure centre, where they could enjoy festive nibbles and collect their special Santa's Scamper finisher's medal.
Now in its sixth year, the event saw its 1,000th Santa taking part, and is fun for all the family, with many children, buggies and even a few dogs taking part, with many residents encouraging the Santas around the route.
To date the event has donated £3,700 to charities, including the support for Hannah's Trees and Wiltshire Air Ambulance this year
