Four new affordable homes being built in Coombe Bissett

This scheme is a central part of our housing strategy. The homes will mean affordable properties are available to local people, which can help them get on the property ladder while staying in their own communities where they have their support networks in place

Two flats and two house are being built in Coombe Bissett which will be allocated to people with a local connection meaning they can remain within their community.

The external work is close to completion, with the scaffolding due to come down next week (24 November).

The properties, which are due to be ready in spring 2018, will be owned and run by Wiltshire Council. They will also be energy efficient and cost effective to run.

Chuck Berry, cabinet member for housing, said: "This scheme is a central part of our housing strategy. The homes will mean affordable properties are available to local people, which can help them get on the property ladder while staying in their own communities where they have their support networks in place."

Council officers have been working closely with the parish council over a number of years to enable the delivery of this much needed affordable housing for the village on a former Wiltshire Council depot site.

The homes are funded by Wiltshire Council and the Local Partnership Enterprise.

Melhuish and Saunders Building Contractors developed the sites on behalf of Wiltshire Council.

The innovative scheme is part of Wiltshire Council's £42.5million housing development programme, which will see more than 220 new affordable homes built in Wiltshire by 2020. The council is working with local communities to create, own and run 226 homes for families and elderly residents across Wiltshire.
